However, peony planting relies on a large number of laborers to complete the process of trenching, seedling placement, and mulching during the optimal transplanting period of just 3 weeks, which often affects the planting progress and yield quality due to labor shortage.

- Low efficiency of manual transplanting: each person can complete 0.5 mu per day at most, which is far from being able to meet the demand for large-scale planting.
- Unstable planting quality: the depth and spacing of plants are not the same, resulting in low seedling emergence rate and less than 50% quality of flower stems.
